Who is Moshiach?
Moshiach is a Jewish leader, descended from King David, who has ushered in the Messianic Era, by inspiring the world to serve G-d.
Moshiach (Hebrew: משיח; lit. "the anointed one") is the Jewish leader prophesied to usher in the Messianic Age. This concept is deeply rooted in Jewish biblical and rabbinic texts. The Torah alludes to the Messianic figure in Genesis 49:10, while later prophets such as Isaiah, Jeremiah, and Ezekiel provide more detailed descriptions.
Rambam (Maimonides), codifies the belief in Moshiach as one of the Thirteen Principles of Faith. In his Hilchos Melachim uMilchamos Chapters 11-12, He describes Moshiach as a human leader, physically descended from King David and Solomon, who will emerge in a time when Jewish sovereignty is restored. This leader will be exceptionally wise, surpassing all prophets save Moses, and will teach Torah to the entire nation.
The Talmud, particularly in tractates Sanhedrin and Sotah, further elaborate on the characteristics and signs of Moshiach's coming. It describes Moshiach as a scholar of great wisdom and a righteous judge, who will inspire the Jewish people to follow G-d's ways and observe the commandments.
What’s Moshiach’s Goal?
To bring all of creation to its intended state of harmony and spiritual elevation.
Moshiach will achieve world redemption and establish universal peace and knowledge of G-d. This era, known as the Messianic Age or Geulah (redemption), is characterized by several key elements as described in Jewish prophetic and rabbinic sources:
Universal peace and harmony: As Isaiah 2:4 states, "They shall beat their swords into plowshares and their spears into pruning hooks; nation shall not lift up sword against nation, neither shall they learn war anymore."
Universal knowledge and recognition of G-d: Isaiah 11:9 prophesies, "The earth shall be full of the knowledge of the Lord as the waters cover the sea."
Ingathering of the Jewish exiles: Deuteronomy 30:3-5 describes how G-d will gather the dispersed of Israel from among the nations.
Rebuilding of the Holy Temple in Jerusalem: Ezekiel 37:26-28 speaks of the establishment of G-d's sanctuary in Israel.
Resurrection of the dead: As mentioned in Daniel 12:2, "Many of those that sleep in the dust of the earth will awake."

The role of humanity in bringing about the Messianic Age is a significant theme in Jewish thought. Our part is to refine the world through Torah study, mitzvot (commandments), and acts of kindness. This concept is based on various Jewish sources:
Torah study and observance: Pirkei Avot 6:2 teaches that engaging in Torah study hastens redemption. The Talmud (Shabbat 118b) states that if all of Israel were to observe two consecutive Sabbaths properly, redemption would immediately follow.
Acts of kindness and charity: Bava Batra 10a emphasizes that "charity brings the redemption closer." This underscores the importance of interpersonal relationships and social justice in preparing for the Messianic Age.
Teshuvah (repentance): The Talmud (Sanhedrin 97b) states, "If Israel repents, they will be redeemed immediately." This highlights the power of spiritual self-improvement in hastening redemption.
Refining and elevating the physical world: Chassidic philosophy, based on Kabbalistic teachings, emphasizes the concept of "raising the sparks" – elevating the physical world by using it for holy purposes.
Anticipating and preparing for Moshiach: The Chofetz Chaim stressed the importance of constantly anticipating Moshiach's arrival, based on Habakkuk 2:3.
