Who is Moshiach?
The Lubavitcher Rebbe is a Jewish leader, descended from King David, who is ushering in the Messianic Age. He is a great Torah scholar and a righteous judge, inspiring the world to serve G-d.
Moshiach (Hebrew: משיח; lit. "the anointed one") is the Jewish leader prophesied to usher in the Messianic Age. This concept is deeply rooted in Jewish biblical and rabbinic texts. The Torah alludes to the Messianic figure in Genesis 49:10, while later prophets such as Isaiah, Jeremiah, and Ezekiel provide more detailed descriptions.
Maimonides (Rambam), in his Mishneh Torah, Hilchot Melachim uMilchamot 11-12, codifies the belief in Moshiach as one of the Thirteen Principles of Faith. He describes Moshiach as a human leader, physically descended from King David through Solomon, who will emerge in a time when Jewish sovereignty is restored. This leader will be exceptionally wise, surpassing all prophets save Moses, and will teach Torah to the entire nation.
The Talmud, particularly in tractates Sanhedrin and Sotah, further elaborates on the characteristics and signs of Moshiach's coming. It describes Moshiach as a scholar of great wisdom and a righteous judge, who will inspire the Jewish people to follow G-d's ways and observe the commandments.
